Holy Disciples Parish

Reception for Fr. Antony Prakasam January 11

We were all very surprised and saddened in November when we learned that Fr. Anthony Smith would be leaving our parish at the first of the year.  We were comforted to know that Fr. Antony Prakasam would be our interim Administrator until a new pastor was appointed in June. Then last weekend we were shocked to now hear that Fr. Antony Prakasam has been called back to India by his superiors, to become a Provincial Superior in his order!  We will all miss him so very much!  He has definitely shared his love for the Bible with us, taught us so much about our faith, and has made a difference in our lives.

Therefore, the Catholic Women of Holy Disciples will be hosting a reception to honor Fr. Antony this Sunday, January 11th after the 11 am Mass at St. John The Evangelist in Fr Filip Hall.  They realize this is short notice, but he is leaving so soon and since the weather forecast is good for this weekend, they have decided to do this on Sunday.
So, no matter which Mass you plan to attend, you are invited and welcome to come to St. John on Sunday at noon to say goodbye to Fr. Antony and wish him well in his transition to a new assignment.  There will be light refreshments of sandwiches, fruit, desserts, coffee and tea.  It will be a brief, casual opportunity to tell Fr. Antony that we have appreciated him in so many ways.

Mass Schedule Changes Effective January 3, 2026

Last week in my announcement I mentioned that a change in the Mass schedule is required since we will have just one priest in residence starting January 3, 2026.  After much consideration and in consultation with the parish council, I have decided on the following Mass schedule starting January 3, 2026.

Saturday Vigil              4:30     St John Church (3:30 confessions)
Sunday                         8:00     St Mary Magdalen Church
                                      9:30     St John Church
                                    11:00     St John Church

I understand this will be a challenging transition for many. I truly wish we could maintain the current schedule, but in fairness to Fr Antony, and to the yet to be named new pastor, the schedule must be reduced. We are committed to doing the best we can to provide the sacraments for you in the capacity that is possible.  Much will be asked of Fr. Antony as he assumes the role of temporary administrator. I only ask that you give him as much support and help as you have given me over these past few years.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we transition to a new future filled with new possibilities.
